Virginia City Outhouse Races

Virginia City Outhouse Races

The Annual Outhouse Races began as a protest when the County wanted to ban all outhouses during the fall of 1990. The residents of Virginia City, traditionalists by nature protested and brought their outhouses to the county offices. It was no surprise to anyone that this became an annual event; whether to keep the County on their toes, or just for "out and out fun"! Either way, this is now a two-day event with a costumed parade, where creative versions of the outhouses can be viewed as they roll down C Street, with the Virginia City 'Plungerettes' in tow. Following the parade the three-man teams, with one in the outhouse and the other two pushing and pulling, race to the finish line where the lucky contestants have the opportunity to qualify for the Sunday "runoffs" or is that push off? This is free entertainment in an outrageously comic weekend that is fun for the entire family.
